~ Buttons Buttons Everywhere ~

Today Pete and I took a trip down the road to St. Joseph, IL. Whats in St. Joe you ask? About 1 intersection, 3-5 antique stores, and some quaint homes in a small town.

We went to one of the antique places and I pawed through dressers of buttons. Why buttons?  Well, who knows why, BUT I had fun.  I also ended up with more buttons than I would ever need, so now I have to come up with some projects for them. Also something peculiar - I ended up with an entire jar of BLUE buttons. I guess I was just in a monotone kind of a mood.
Surprisingly there are many shades of blue within this bunch. I see variety! Not monotone.

Some of these have cool patterns on top. I like those little ones on the top left corner.
I also hand selected a few, yellow somehow snuck in there. You can see these cool triangular ones.

Lots of these buttons remind me of buttons that were on my great grandmothers house coats. Speaking of Nana, my parents have a chest of buttons she collected. Some day maybe I can let our button collections live together.

On to figure out what to do with all these little gems.

  1. I have seen jewelry made from buttons such as these, bracelets, earrings, necklaces. Also, a friend once sewed buttons randomly on the front of a cardigan and that was a neat effect. Have fun! Nancy

  3. Sami - try to go to a junk shop or an antique store. The antique store I went to falls into the category of someone who is a pack-rat gone wrong, rather than the classy antiques on display. Vintage buttons are the way to go!
